Steve, his wife Tania and their 4 small children arrived in Merredin late in 1997 having sold the family farm in the Brookton district and purchased land south east of Merredin.
It is a long story but both Steve and Tania felt a strong lead from the Holy Spirit that Merredin was the place they were being called to.
“As for Church, the people just loved us in, and we have loved being part of the congregation ever since,” says Steve.
Steve was christened a Presbyterian as an infant and church and faith were a big part of family life growing up.
As an adult Steve attended Westminster Presbyterian, Churches of Christ, Uniting and Baptist congregations. “I love the country congregations because denominations are much more fluid, as often everyone joins together from all sorts of backgrounds to share common ground and support each other.”
It was in the Baptist congregation in Carnarvon that it really struck Steve that God doesn’t have grandchildren. “Everyone has to have their personal journey with Christ and be reconciled.”
Steve and Tania are now blessed with two sons, their wives and children in partnership on the farm as well as heavily involved with the congregation in music, children’s ministry and Tech support. One daughter and her family are involved in farming and church in Gnowangerup, while the other works and fellowships in Perth.
Over the years Steve has grown into leadership roles in the congregation and is currently an elder, lay preacher, and Chair of the Church Council. “As team leader I’m really excited to be part of a growing, nurturing congregation committed to sharing the love of Christ into the isolated regions of WA and beyond.”
