David came to Merredin in 2009 from South Africa. He was previously the minister at Upper Umgeni Presbyterian Church in Howick, KwaZulu-Natal. After serving at Merredin Uniting Church for three years, David answered a call to serve at Lighthouse Church in Geraldton. Three years later he was appointed as the General Secretary of the Uniting Church in Western Australia. He retired from the role in 2021. Soon afterwards he was appointed by YouthCare as the Chaplain to School Principals in the Eastern Wheatbelt and later also as Area Chaplain and Chaplain to Principals in the Goldfields area. During this time he lived in Merredin and joined the leadership of Merredin Church.
He is married to Margaret and they have three adult children and nine grandchildren. The whole family live in Western Australia. David and Margaret now live in Geraldton to be near two of their children and six of their grandchildren. They still visit Merredin regularly with preaching responsibility. David also developed our online presence through our website, Facebook page and YouTube channels. He has also prepared a weekly online Bible Study (Faith2Face) which we use for our adult Sunday school prior to the Worship Service.
Although David spent his formative years in a church boarding school, he only came to faith at the age of 27 years. At the time he was an economist with a motor company in South Africa. He did feel an almost immediate call to ministry. It did however take several years before he graduated with a degree in theology and had completed the required probationer training with the Presbyterian Church in Southern Africa. He was ordained to the ministry of Word and Sacrament in 1993.
